Ray Asbery Honored at Auto Glass Week
September 24, 2012
absence of Ray Asbery, the founder of Equalizer, who passed away
last year, was felt at Auto Glass Week, but his memory lived on
at the event and he was recognized in a few unique ways.
First, when the event officially kicked off last Thursday, Debra
Levy, publisher of AGRR magazine, welcomed attendees
and formally dedicated the week to Asbery. A film tribute to the
industry innovator garnered plentiful applause, as did Asbery's
son Eric Asbery, who thanked show organizers for the dedication.
In addition, Nick Gittins of Techna Glass in Clearfield, Utah, third-place
winner in the Pilkington Clear Advantage Auto Glass Technician Olympics
(AGTO), was recognized with the Ray Asbery Innovation Award for
his development and use of modifications to his setting tool. The
award has been named to honor Asbery, who developed many innovative
tools throughout his industry career and held more than 20 patents
in 15 countries
