'07 Bronze Medalist Returns to AGTO

Matt Thompson of Royal Glass in Port Tobacco, Md., will return to compete this year in the Fourth Annual Auto Glass Technician Olympics (AGTO) in Las Vegas. Thompson, who will be a third-time competitor, took home third-place in last year's AGTO.

His two years in the competition have taught him much in preparation for this year, he says.

"Expect the unexpected, and take everything in stride," warns Thompson. "Don't panic and just do your job. Let the chips fall where they may."

Though Thompson aims for the gold and placed third last year, he says just competing is an honor.

"It's a situation where I'm surrounded by qualified technicians that go above and beyond the standards, or they wouldn't be there, and I'm privileged to be among them," he says.

Thompson, 39, has 21 years experience in the industry.

The AGTO will be held November 7-8, 2008, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The AGTO is held as part of Auto Glass Week in Las Vegas, in conjunction with the Auto Glass Expo at NACE, the International Auto Glass Safety (AGRSS) Conference, the IGA's Fall Marketing Conference, the National Windshield Repair Association's (NWRA) Annual Conference, and the Third Annual Walt Gorman Memorial Windshield Repair Olympics (WRO).
