of Laminated Safety Glass for Vehicular Use Down from June to July
2009, China Ranks at Top of Import List

Exports of laminated safety glass for vehicular use from the United
States increased 3.2 percent from June to July and imports decreased
during the same period, according to the latest stats from the U.S.
Census Bureau.
Though the United States had seen a 99.8 percent increase in imports
coming from China from February to June of this year for laminated
safety glass for vehicles (CLICK
HERE for related story), between June and July, this figure
actually dropped by 8.2 percent-from $14.4 million in imports to
$13.3 million. However, this was still the highest ranking country
importing laminated safety glass for use in vehicles to the United
States during the month.
The imports of laminated safety glass for vehicular use (which includes
both automotive and aircraft windshields) into the country was estimated
at $33.2 million total for the month of July, compared with $35.0
million for the same period in June-a drop of 5.1 percent. Exports
of laminated safety glass for use in vehicles from the United States
were valued at $16.5 million in July, compared with $16.0 million
in June.
The country with the largest surge in imports of this glass to the
United States during this period was Thailand-which increased the
laminated safety glass for vehicular use it sent to the United States
by 129.1 percent. In comparison with most, though, the actual value
of the glass imported was small; the United States imported just
$3,394 in laminated safety glass for use in vehicles in June, and
$7,775 in July.
During the month of July, the United States exported the most glass
of this type to Canada, estimated at $8.8 million.
