Imports and Exports Up for Vehicular Laminated Safety Glass for
Period of February-June 2009; Imports from China Up by 99.8 Percent

Both imports and exports are up for laminated safety glass for
vehicles both coming into and going out of the United States, according
to statistics released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau. The
imports of laminated vehicular safety glass into the country for
the month of June were estimated at $35.0 million dollars-up 39.6
percent since February 2009-and exports from the United States were
valued at $16.0 million dollars, an increase of 20.7 percent.
Imports from China were up 99.8 percent; valued at $6.7 million
in February and $14.4 million in June.
For imports of laminated vehicular safety glass, which includes
both automotive and aircraft windshields, the United States saw
the great increase in the amount of product coming from Israel-from
a total value of $38,663 in February, to $447,405 in June, an upswing
of 1,057 percent. The biggest drop was in product coming from Luxembourg—down
20.3 percent from $92,577 in February to $73,786 in June.
For exports, laminated safety glass exported to Spain saw the largest
increase at 718.0 percent-from a total value of $52,341 in February
to $428,266 in June 2009. Exports to Austria dropped the most for
the period of February to June-going from $21,706 to $11,156, a
decrease of 159 percent.
