PGW
to Become Main Glass Supplier for Mercedes-Benz
May 22, 2009
Pittsburgh Glass Works LLC (PGW) has entered into an agreement
with Daimler AG to become the main supplier of windshields, laminated
sidelites and backlites for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and SUVs.
"We've been a supplier of [Daimler] for quite sometime and
we're absolutely thrilled with the evolution of the relationship
into this new arrangement for supply," says Pete Dishart of
PGW.
According to a statement issued by PGW, the new agreement will require
the company to invest in manufacturing capacity and technology development
to meet the requirements of the partnership.
Dishart could not comment on the specifics of how this might affect
PGW's plants.
"With this relationship, we need to make sure we have the capacities
capable of making the parts that they require, and they certainly
have a demanding set of customers and we need to make sure our parts
can meet the needs that they have," he said.
PGW expects its Sungate® coated auto glass, Solextra® blue
glass, Safe and Sound® laminated glass and SoundMaster®
acoustic glass to see increased use on Daimler vehicles.
"Daimler was an early adopter of our Sungate coated automotive
glass," says Paolo Cavallari, general manager of PGW Europe.
"And through this strategic partnership we are committed to
supporting their ongoing needs for innovative process and product
technologies."
"I think this is excellent news for the glass industry and
for PGW," adds Dishart.
