Wilmer "W.O." Smith Passes Away

Wilmer "W.O." Smith, president and co-owner of Magic Glass Inc.
in Lafayette, Ind., passed away at the age of 87 early Saturday
"[He was] part of the original Glass Specialty franchisee group,
until the franchisees broke away to form Magic Auto Glass," remembers
David Rohlfing, president of Windshield Centers. "W.O. was the last
surviving Smith brother of Magic of Indiana. First Ray passed, then
Bob and now W.O.-three fine gentlemen who were certainly all mentors
to me in the glass industry as they were from my home town. I was
lucky to have been able to talk with W.O. several times this year
while visiting the Paxton area to make sure he knew how much I appreciated
him and all that he had done for me."
Smith was born November 25, 1925 in Ludlow, Ind. He was preceded
in death by his wife Helene Hunn on August 13, 2001. The two were
married May 25, 1960.
Smith is survived by sons Wayne O. Smith of Glenwood Springs, Colo.,
and Brett H. Smith and wife Tammi of Champaign, Ind.; four grandchildren,
Julia R. Smith, William O. Smith, John H. Smith and Peter A. Smith;
and two sisters, Anna Lou Gibbs of Paxton, Ind., and Mary Martin
and husband Carl of Ludlow, Ind.
Smith was a member of many organizations including the Ludlow Christian
Church, the Ludlow American Legion Post 518 and the Paxton Masonic
Lodge No. 416 A.F. and A.M.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at
Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., in Paxton, Ind.
Interment will follow in the Ludlow Township cemetery, with military
honors by members of the Ludlow, Rantoul and Paxton American Legion
Posts. Visitation will be allowed one hour prior to the funeral
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church
in Rantoul, Ind., or the University Baptist Church of Champaign,
