Miles Driven Declined in June

The Federal Highway Administration (FHA), a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, has released the newest numbers for miles driven in June 2013, showing an overall decrease of 0.4 percent, or 0.9 billion vehicle miles, from June 2012.

Overall travel for the month is estimated to be around 258.1 billion vehicle miles, compared to 262.1 billion vehicle miles in May 2013.

Cumulative travel for 2013 declined slightly by 1.4 billion vehicle miles. So far, the cumulative estimate for the year is 1,461.7 billion vehicle miles.

With the exception of the West region, all other regions showed decreased over May 2013. The West region was up 1.5 percent from May 2013.

These numbers reversed the trend saw for May, which showed an increase in miles driven.
