Dina Dwyer-Owens is leaving her role as CEO of The Dwyer Group, parent company to Glass Doctor. It is a position she’s held for 15 years. Mike Bidwell, president and chief operating officer, is moving into the CEO position, effective immediately.

“Five years ago, our company president stepped up and assumed many of my CEO responsibilities as I chaired the International Franchise Association, went undercover for Undercover Boss and more. It’s time to formalize this role for Mike Bidwell as he has shown the dedication, drive and skills necessary to lead our day-to-day operations. This will also allow me to leverage my talents and desires to promote The Dwyer Group and our Live R.I.C.H. culture while we take the company to the next level,” Dwyer-Owens says in a company statement.

“This is a great move for The Dwyer Group. We continue to grow by promoting the key people who have earned those positions,” says Mark Liston, Glass Doctor’s president.

Dwyer-Owens’ new company role will be as executive chairwoman of The Dwyer Group. Her duties will include promoting the code of values and culture of the company, seeking out acquisition opportunities for complimentary service brands and speaking on local, national and international stages on behalf of The Dwyer Group.

Dwyer-Owens grew up in the company which was founded by her father, Don Dwyer Sr. The Dwyer Group, which is based in Waco, Texas, was established 1981. Glass Doctor was established in 1962 with one shop in Seattle, Wash. It began franchising in 1977 and joined The Dwyer Group in 1998.

“I’ve been called the Godmother of Franchising. And quite frankly, it’s a name I like. After all, our franchise family at The Dwyer Group has been around 33 years. I’ve grown up in this business. I feel like a protector of sorts when championing our service brands, our code of values and the great opportunities that come with franchising in general. It never gets old,” she said in a January blog discussing her company’s recognition to the Entrepreneur’s 2014 Franchise 500 list.

Bidwell joined The Dwyer Group as a Tucson, Ariz.-based Rainbow International franchisee in 1984. He moved to The Dwyer Group headquarters in 1995 as president of Rainbow International and served as president of this division from 1995 to 2002. He served as president of Mr. Appliance from 1998 to 2006 and president of Mr. Rooter from 1998 to 2006. He became COO of The Dwyer Group in 2002 and added the title of president in 2007.

In another company move, Mary Kennedy Thompson has been appointed executive vice president of The Dwyer Group and also will retain her current title as president of Mr. Rooter, a subsidiary. Thompson will provide support to the new CEO in the daily activities and operations of the company and its subsidiary brands.
