NICB Names Most-Stolen SUVs/CUVs

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has announced the top 10 most-stolen sports-utility vehicles and crossovers from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2013. More than 20,000 SUVs/CUVs were stolen during this period, covering 2011, 2012 and 2013 model years.

The top five most-stolen makes and models:

Ford Escape 1,421
Ford Edge 1,140
Ford Explorer 958
Jeep Grand Cherokee 912
Kia Sorento 725

 

The most-stolen in terms of class are:

Compact CUVs 6,981
Large CUVs 3,206
Mid-Sized CUVs 3,204
Large SUVs 2,902
Premium SUVs 2,394

 

Top five states for these thefts:

California 3,531
Florida 1,897
Michigan 1,834
Texas 1,686
New York 1,577
