Sika Corp. has promoted Carl Tompkins to national sales manager of flat glass, effective January 2, 2015. He previously served as global automotive glass replacement strategic marketing manager and western region manager for aftermarket. In his new role, Tompkins will manage the U.S. strategy, execution and growth targets of Sika Target Market Industry in the flat glass segment, according to officials.
“As an adjacent market opportunity to the auto glass replacement business, Carl’s background lends itself ideally to accelerated growth of the flat glass business,” says Dan Hilliard, senior vice president of Industry Target Market USA.
“It is our intent to become the preferred supplier of sealant and adhesive products for fabrication and repair within the many businesses that serve both the AGR and flat glass industries,” he adds. “Carl’s 19 years of success in the Sika AGR business, coupled with his extensive knowledge of and past positions in the glass industry, are a natural fit for this position.”
Prior to joining Sika, Tompkins spent 10 years with PPG as manager of market development for the automotive glass division and he was responsible for the introduction and growth of the automotive sundries supply service. He was also a co-founder of LYNX Services, PPG’s former third-party administrator division, which is now part of Solera Holdings.
He was recognized in 2010 as a “legend” by AGRR™ magazine. Among his many achievements, he played an instrumental role in establishment of the AGRRS Standard™, served for multiple years on both the AGRSS (now Auto Glass Safety Council) board of directors and the AGRSS Standard committee, according to Sika.
“Illustrative of his passion and commitment, professionalism and safety, the Auto Glass Safety Council has created an award in his name, given annually,” according to Sika’s statement.
Tompkins also authored a book titled “Winning at Business,” which is available at Amazon.com.
