Miles Driven Increases by 1.4 Percent for June 2014

The Federal Highway Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, has released the newest numbers for miles driven in June 2014, showing an increase of 1.4 percent or 3.7 billion vehicle miles, compared with June 2013.

Travel for the month is estimated to be 261.7 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for the year is 1,466 billion vehicle miles.

Comparing month-over-month figures, the Northeast showed the most growth at 6.9 percent, followed by the North Central region at 6.3 percent. The West was the only region to show a decline, down 1.3 percent.

Comparing year-over-year figures, the highest growth came in the South Atlantic at 1.7 percent. The only region to show a decline was the Northeast, down 1 percent.
