Progressive Names Top Types of 2014 Auto Claims

Progressive Insurance has released a report summarizing top auto claims trends for 2014. Coming in high on the list of top claims by type is “object coming from the road,” which could lead to glass damage.

“The data includes all claims, including glass, that result from an object coming from the road,” says Jeff Sibel, a Progressive spokesperson.

The complete list of top five claims include:

1. Rear-end;

2. Single vehicle;

3. Parked;

4. Intersection; and

5. Object coming from the road.

The states showing the highest number of personal auto claims are:

1. Washington, D.C.;

2. Massachusetts;

3. Maryland;

4. New York; and

5. South Carolina.

Progressive also ranked each month by the number of claims the company receives:

1. May;

2. June;

3. January;

4. March;

5. April;

6. February;

7. July;

8. October;

9. August;

10. November;

11. September; and

12. December.

The company ranked the days of the week by number of auto claims it receives:

1. Friday;

2. Monday;

3. Thursday;

4. Wednesday;

5. Tuesday;

6. Saturday; and

7. Sunday.

The top dates for automotive claims are:

1. May 22;

2. April 3;

3. June 3;

4. June 5; and

5. February 14.

Progressive also identified which states showed the highest number of personal auto theft:

1. Washington, D.C.;

2. California;

3. Washington

4. Missouri; and

5. Hawaii.
