Drivers Took to the Road More This June

Miles driven went up at the steady pace of 3.9 percent in June 2015, or 10.3 billion vehicle miles, compared to June 2014. The Federal Highway Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, released the latest numbers this week.

Travel for June is estimated to be 261.9 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for the year is up 3.5 percent, or 52.0 billion vehicle miles, to 1,536.6 billion vehicle miles.

Looking at month-over-month figures, the South Gulf region showed the most growth, up 2.4 percent. The South Atlantic region decreased by 1.2 percent.

Comparing year-over-year figures, the largest growth came in the West region, up 5.7 percent. The slightest growth was in the Northeast region, up 1.1.
