Travel on all roads and streets continued on an upward trend in June 2017, increasing 1.2 percent, or 3.4 billion vehicle miles, compared to June 2016, according to the latest figures from the Federal Highway Administration. However, month-over-month miles driven slightly decreased by .2 percent.
Travel for the month is estimated to be 280.9 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for the year is up 1.6 percent, or 24.6 billion vehicle miles, to an estimated 1,580.0 billion vehicle miles of travel.
On a year-over-year basis, all regions showed growth. The region representing the strongest growth was the West, up 3.2 percent.
Comparing month-over-month figures, three regions showed growth. The region representing the strongest growth was the North Central, up 2.3 percent. Conversely, the South Atlantic experienced a decrease in travel of 3 percent.
