PGW Considers Closing Creighton, Pa., Plant

Pittsburgh Glass Works LLC (PGW) officials say that discussions are underway involving the future of company’s manufacturing facility in Creighton, Pa. The facility is one of the company’s eight automotive glass manufacturing plants in the United States, with 193 hourly workers, according to a statement from the company.

“A combination of difficult realities could lead to the Creighton facility’s closure in 2018, with an initial shift of certain customer orders to PGW’s unionized facility in Evansville, Ind., for fulfillment,” writes the company. “Under this scenario, the full conclusion of production activities at Creighton might not occur until the summer of 2018 – about nine months from now.”

“Despite our extraordinary group of employees and colleagues at Creighton – including some unique work that has never been done before in glass-pressing technology – the facility faces a combination of serious challenges,” says company CEO and president Joe Stas.
