Mercedes-Benz Sunroof May Detach

Repair shops and owners may want to keep an eye out for potential issues with the panoramic sunroof on select Mercedes-Benz models, as it may become detached. The detachment may increase the driver’s chance of causing an accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the front cover and rear fixed glass are not properly installed and may detach while the vehicle is in motion, creating a road hazard and compromising driver visibility. “During manufacturing, components of the panoramic sunroof may have been installed with a bonding primer that was incorrectly made, possibly affecting the long-term adhesion to the vehicle,” NHTSA said. The three models effected are 2018 GLE 350, GLE 350 4Matic and the GLE 43 AMG.

Mercedes Benz USA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the panoramic sunroof, replace it if necessary for free. The recall is expected to begin August 31, 2018. Auto glass shop owners can tell their customers to contact Mercedes Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
