‘American Factory’ Wins Oscar for Best Documentary Feature

“American Factory,” a documentary about Fuyao Glass America’s (Fuyao) plant in Moraine, Ohio, at the site of a former General Motors plant, has won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The film was created by Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company Higher Ground and was directed by Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar.

The documentary focuses on Chinese billionaire Cao Dewang and Fuyao as it opens a new factory and hires two thousand American workers. The cultural differences between the two countries were a main focal point. According to the company, since 2014, China’s Fujian-based Fuyao Glass Industry Group has invested more than $900 million in Fuyao Glass America, which makes automotive glass.
