Visibility Issues Cause Recalls for Two Manufacturers

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued two visibility recalls from Chrysler (FCA) and Ferrari North America, Inc. (Ferrari).

FCA

The recall, according to NHTSA, states that missing driver side mirror glass reduces driver visibility, which would increase the risk of an accident.

“Chrysler (FCA) is recalling certain 2020 Ram 2500 and 1500 vehicles. The driver side mirror glass can detach from the backing plate and no longer provide a reflective surface,” a portion of NHTSA’s release reads. “As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, ‘Rear Visibility.’”

This recall impacts more than 19,000 vehicle owners and is expected to begin on November 27, 2020, according to NHTSA.

FCA stated the company would notify affected vehicle owners of its latest safety recall. Auto glass companies working on the recalled models can assure their customers that their driver side mirror glass will be replaced, at no cost to the customer. Shop owners can advise their impacted FCA vehicle owners to contact the manufacturer’s customer service center if they have more questions at 1-800-853-1403 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Chrysler’s number for this recall is W70. NHTSA’s campaign number for this recall is 20V622000.

Ferrari

Ferrari is recalling more than 1,000 of its vehicles, which include certain 2018-2020 812 Superfast vehicles. According to the company, the rear window on these vehicles may have been bonded incorrectly. It also states the bonding issue could lead to decreased, long-term adhesion, which can increase the possibility of drivers having an accident.

“The rear window may fully detach from the vehicle creating a road hazard,” a portion of NHTSA’s release reads.
Ferrari’s number for this recall is 73, and according to NHTSA, the recall is expected to begin on December 5, 2020.

Ferrari stated the company will notify all of its impacted vehicle owners. Auto glass companies working on the recalled models can assure their customers that their rear window will be replaced at no cost. Shop owners can advise their impacted Ferrari vehicle owners to contact the manufacturer’s customer service center if they have more questions at 1-201-816-2668 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236. NHTSA’s campaign number for this recall is 20V614000.
