Wildfires have severely impacted businesses, homes and more on the West Coast, and according to news reports, California recorded its first gigafire in modern history this week. A gigafire is a term for a blaze that burns at least one million acres of land.
Although Glass Doctor Murrieta, Calif., isn’t located in the area directly impacted by the current wildfire, the business has first-hand experience with the natural disaster.
“My heart goes out to those who are currently being affected, said Laurel Miller, Glass Doctor Murrieta franchise owner. “Wildfires are devastating and last year we were affected by a close-by wildfire.”
She notes that last year’s wildfire taught her that there is a lot the auto glass industry can do to help in local communities. Miller said she is a volunteer on a local nature preserve board, where it educates the community about wildfires to spread awareness.
Although we are not aware of when a natural disaster will strike, it is important for industry businesses to have a plan in place and communicate it with their staff.
“It’s essential for business to be prepared, have a plan in place, and ensure their staff’s safety,” said Miller. “If the auto glass business has the capability to help, the most essential thing you can do in these times is to become a community drop off location so locals can donate water, food or other goods for families that are impacted.”
