The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall Sept. 14 for the inadequate front windshield bonding in the Ford Mustang Mach-E 2021. Ford specifically recalled the electric SUV in Canada because the glass roof can fall off and the windshield detach.
Tesla had similar issues with certain models a year ago.
“The windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, which could allow it to detach,” the recall states for the Ford Mustang. Separation of the windshield from the vehicle during an auto collision can increase risk of injury, and fails to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for windshield mounting.
Auto glass company managers are advised to let their customers who own a Mustang Mach-E 2021 to call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to www.nhtsa.gov, for more information on how to have their windshields removed and reinstalled free of charge. Ford’s number for the recall is 21C22. The NHTSA campaign number is 21V711000
