“The Speedy Auto Glass blew up,” says Joe Hurdle. “And there were flames through the roof about 15-20 feet.”
Hurdle owns the Midas shop next door to Speedy Glass in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. He and his staff saw black smoke and flames from the roof of Speedy Glass Wednesday morning after an explosion.
“There was a big bang. Doors blew off and then the roof flew off the place,” Hurdle told CTV News.
A call came into fire and rescue after 8:15 a.m., according to CTV News.
Hurdle and his son attempted to assist as the glass shop went up in flames. Two shop employees were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
County Road 93 was closed until 11 a.m. while the fire was brought under control with the help of 30 firefighters.
“I would say 90 percent of the building was involved,” Midland Deputy Fire Chief Ritch Lowell told CTV News Wednesday morning.
