NHTSA Recalls 2022 Ford Transits for Rearview Camera Default

Ford voluntarily issued a recall of 119 2022 Ford Transit vehicles because of a defect in the camera to display a rearview image when the vehicle is in reverse.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a camera unable to display a rearview image in reverse can reduce the drivers’ view behind the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.

Ford will send letters to affected vehicle owners on April 25, 2022, notifying them of the recall. The rearview mirror supplied in the vehicles’ camera and prep kit will not function and shows a blank rearview image. The Ford recall number is 22S18.

Other 305 2022 Ford Transit vehicles are also under recall for rearview mirror defect, but this one was caused by the image processing module for the 360-degree camera system not processing the back-up image under certain rear-loading vehicle conditions. Vehicle owner notifications for this recall were mailed letters on April 7 with recall number 22S16.
