North Carolina Business Owner and Son Killed in Head-On Collision

Michael Shane Marlowe, owner of B & B Auto Glass and Mirrors in Statesville, N.C., was killed the evening of Monday, June 13, when a vehicle reportedly crossed the centerline and collided with his golf cart. Marlowe’s 5-year-old son, Bentley Marlowe, also died in the collision.

According to a WSOC-TV news report, 39-year-old Marlowe was operating the cart and his son a passenger when a Honda Accord crossed the centerline and collided with the golf cart just before 10 p.m. Monday. Michael and Bentley Marlowe died at the scene, while four other passengers ages 2, 13, 16 and 26 were seriously injured, and transported to Charlotte and Winston-Salem hospitals.

The driver of the Honda has been identified by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol as 23-year-old Austin Ray Harmon of Statesville. He was not injured in the collision and was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired, two counts of felony death by vehicle and three counts of felony serious injury by vehicle.

The investigation continues.
