New Law Causing Confusion Over Insurance Costs

As of August 1, a New York law will automatically enroll state residents in additional coverage that they may not need. However, opting out is possible. “But they have to do it in writing,” says David Kirst, senior insurance specialist with AAA. “You are going to have a declination form that you will have to sign saying ‘I do not want this coverage’ otherwise it’s just being added to the policy.”
