AASP-MN Renews Efforts to Prohibit Insurers from Owning Repair Shops in State

The Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Minnesota (AASP-MN) has announced that it intends to seek the reintroduction of legislation that would prohibit insurance companies from owning repair shops in the state of Minnesota. According to the AASP-MN, the group developed the legislation several years ago, but placed it on hold while the Allstate debate regarding this topic continued in Texas.

The Allstate appeal went from the Federal District Court, which upheld the Texas law prohibiting this practice, to the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, which upheld the District Court decision, and finally to the U.S. Supreme Court which refused to hear the matter, thus upholding the lower courts and the Texas law.
