Friends, Family Gather to Celebrate Life of Equalizer CEO Ray Asbery
October 3, 2011

Services to celebrate the life of Equalizer CEO and founder Ray Asbery were held today in Pflugerville, Texas. Asbery passed away unexpectedly last Tuesday, September 27.
A number of industry associates spoke during the service, including Asbery’s son, Eric Asbery, president of Equalizer, who reflected on his father’s love of history—particularly of the Civil War.
“He knew every battle and every leader of those battles,” recalled Eric Asbery.
He also reflected on his father’s personal side. “He always took an interest in the person he was talking to and would find a way to connect, often through a story,” said Eric Asbery.
Much of the service focused on Asbery’s devotion to helping others. Long-time business associate Gilbert Gutierrez, vice president of Equalizer, reflected on how much he learned from Asbery. “I’ve seen places all over the world I wouldn't have otherwise seen,” he said. “Ray would tell me he wished he could take all the Equalizer staff with him, but he would always bring something back to them.”

Asbery is survived by his wife of 46 years, Clare; his son, Eric, along with his wife, Cindy, their children, Robert, Ashlee, Lindsey and Carson, and a great-granddaughter, Leila, all of Round Rock, Texas; a daughter, Wendy Schneider, her husband, Jeff, and their children, Jessica, Jordan and Alyssa of New Braunfels, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the American Cancer Society , Humane Society and to Asbery's favorite charity, Smile Train.™/AGRR™ magazine has set up a tribute page on its online forum for remembrances of Asbery. In addition, Asbery's full obituary is available here.
