Salt Lake City Technician Wins Best of Belron
US
February 9, 2012
Brandon Rene of Salt Lake City took home first place and $10,000
at the awards gala last night for the U.S.
Best of Belron competition Twelve Safelite technicians competed
for the grand prize and a trip to the international Best of
Belron competition in Barcelona in May.
Rene, who finished in fifth place two years ago, competed in four
auto segments of the competition: removing and re-installing
back glass, a sidelite, a windshield and completing a windshield
repair. Mike Stakes of Phoenix took second place and won a
prize of $5,000.
"I can honestly say that any of these guys could have won and
done a great job representing Safelite in Barcelona,"
says Rene. "I just got lucky. I'm kind of sad that it's
over because I've become friends with all 11 of these guys."
Rene follows a line of Salt Lake City area technicians that have
excelled in industry competitions in recent years. Last year, Rick
Maciel of Techna Glass in nearby Taylorsville, Utah, took
first in the Pilkington Clear Advantage Auto Glass Technician
Olympics. Maciel was followed by Travis Crebs, also of Techna Glass.
In the customer service representative competitions, Angie Miller
of Columbus, Ohio, took first in the referral competition;
Wendy Powers of Columbus, Ohio, was first in sales; and
Amanda Kerley of St. Louis was first in the field. Each received
$2,500 in prize money.
