Glass Expo Midwest™ Opens Today

Glass Expo Midwest™ (GEMS) opened today in Schaumburg, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. The event kicked off with several seminars, including a presentation about proper auto glass installations from industry expert Bob Beranek of Auto Glass Consultants in Sun Prairie, Wis. He also offered a certification exam for those wishing to become certified by the Independent Glass Association.

In addition, Beranek and glassBYTEs.com™/AGRR magazine publisher were on-hand to update attendees on the latest happenings with the AGRSS Council Inc.-and, more specifically, the group's undertaking of a third-party validation program to be launched in January 2009. They also spoke about the AGRSS Consumer Awareness Program, including details on how it works and how to get involved in the program, which was launched in 2007.

Levy wrapped up the day's seminar schedule with a look at the hottest topics in the industry, including the recently announced price-fixing fines imposed on four European auto glass manufacturers, the Diamond bankruptcy and resulting integration into Belron US.

This afternoon, the trade show was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and run through 8 p.m. CST.

The event continues through tomorrow.
