Gustavo Ramos, owner of a Glass Doctor franchise in Long Beach, Calif., will be recognized as the veteran of the game, at the Los Angeles Dodgers game on Wednesday, July 18.
“I was really surprised. I got an email and originally thought it was spam, but I responded and they asked me to be the veteran of the day,” says Ramos. “I think it’s cool because I am a fan. I am just worried about putting the uniform on now. I see a lot of people recognizing troops now, but it wasn’t like that before, so this is really cool.”
Gustavo served in the U.S. Air Force from 2001-2005 before joining Glass Doctor and will be on the field in uniform during the singing of the National Anthem.
“The way I operate is with a focus on attention to detail,” says Ramos about the effect of his military service on how he operates his business. “My dad owned a glass business and so I thought I could do it myself. I was open to everything. It seemed like there was a need for it and it seemed like something you could make money off of. When I started looking into the business, Glass Doctor was definitely the most veteran friendly and that was cool to me.”
The Dodgers will be playing the Philadelphia Phillies at 12:10 p.m. (PST) at Dodgers Stadium. The game will air on television on the following stations: Fox Sports Prime Ticket, Major League Baseball Network (MLBN) and local Time Warner Cable Channel 858. For radio coverage, tune in to 570 Fox Sports L.A. or KTNQ 1020 for Spanish.
Ramos admits that he is nervous, but only about putting that uniform on again.
“I had to decide who was going to go with me and who was not going to laugh at me for being in my uniform,” says Ramos.
