IGA Issues Statement on NCOIL Legislation
July 16, 2010
The IGA has released a beacon to its members about the current
NCOIL legislation. In the IGA
beacon bulletin, IGA executive director Mike Russo says, In
brief ... Belron claims that the model for anti steering legislation
would hurt consumers. And we quote, If a consumer indicates
the name of a repair facility, the insurer would no longer have
the ability to explain the features and benefits of the insurance
policy. Consumers would be justifiably outraged if they were blind-sided
with an invoice from a repair facility, charging the difference
between what the insurance company paid and what the repair facility
charged. Fortunately, the reality is that the courts are ruling
that insurance companies are being held accountable for the differences
(not the consumers), in accordance with the terms of the policies
that they sell.
