Mercedes-Benz SLK Features "Magic Sky Control" Roof as Option
February 8, 2011

The brand-new Mercedes-Benz SLK, which debuted just last week, is available with a Magic Sky control panoramic glass roof as an option. According to a release from Research Frontiers, which supplied its patented SPD-smart light-control technology to Daimler AG, the roof’s tint can be changed from dark to clear instantly with the press of a button.

The tint ranges from very dark (blocking around 99.5 percent visible light) to clear, according to Research Frontiers. The film utilized in the Magic Sky Control roof is manufactured by Hitachi Chemical, and it is laminated into the glass by Nippon Sheet Glass in Japan and Pilkington in the United Kingdom, according to Research Frontiers.
