Passes Away
March 27, 2013
Michael McAskin, 62, of Farmington Hills, Mich., died suddenly
on March 20. He is known for Glass and Metal Distributors, which
he opened in 1985, and Great Lakes Glass Distributors.
He leaves behind Patricia, wife of 42 years, as well as children,
including Katie, Courtney, Patrick, Jim and John Angus.
His siblings include Kathy Luyben, Thomas, Gordie and Colleen.
He was a grandfather of nine.
McAskin pursued his college studies at Northern Michigan University
and Wayne State University with the intention of becoming a teacher,
but glass was in his blood and that led him to Henderson Glass where
he learned the trade from his father, Don, according to his
family's statement. His career in the glass business began at
the age of 15.
The family statement shares, "As Mike always said, 'The glass
business has been good to this family.'"
The funeral mass was held March 25 at Christ the King Catholic
Church, 20800 Grand River, Detroit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial tributes be made
to St. Alexander Church Food Cupboard or Our Lady of Sorrows' Society
of St. Vincent DePaul.
