NOVUS Franchising, Inc.
Falls, WI For the past 12 years, NOVUS Franchisee Tom Leuck
of Chippewa Falls, WI along with his wife, Robin has hosted their
annual Special Kids Day Picnic. Having two special needs children
of their own, the Leucks wanted to plan a fun event for children
with special needs and their teachers. The goal behind the event
was to reward them for their tireless efforts and great accomplishments
they made throughout the school year.
The event started with Tom and Robin taking out a handful of special
needs children and their educators to lunch at a local pizza parlor.
They treated everyone that day to a fun afternoon of celebrating
the accomplishments that were achieved throughout the year. The
positive response from everyone involved was so overwhelming, that
they decided to establish the Special Kids Day Annual Luncheon.
What started out as a handful of students and teachers getting
together quickly grew into quite an event. This year, Special Kids
Day hosted 312 special needs children and their families, totaling
close to 750 people. Also the menu has changed since the first pizza
outing. It is now quite extensive and caters to all pallets, from
burgers and brats to specialty salads and side dishes to a complete
glucose free menu.
Entertainment was also in abundance from clowns and inflatables
to boat rides and fishing; there was something to do for everyone.
The excitement on the children's faceswas inspiring, stated
NOVUS Vice President of Franchise Development Ted Andersen, who
attend the event this year. Sometimes we all need reminders
in our busy lives what is truly important and how we can make a
difference for others. Andersen was also excited to present
Tom with his 10 year NOVUS Service Award at the event.
The Leucks strive to make a difference in not only the lives of
these children, but their families, as well. It's a great
way for parents to network and share stories, said Tom. Due
to the fact that many of the families with special needs children
do not have the resources needed to give their children the care
needed, Special Kids Day has developed additional support programs
to help these families. A dental fund as been established that can
help with the costs not covered by insurance or medical assistance.
Also a memorial fund has been put in place for participants who
are deceased. The Leucks are very thankful to the many private and
corporate donations they have received. Without this support these
programs along with this special event could not exist.
When asked why Tom is so passionate about this organization, his
response was immediate. "I came to learn more about disabled
children and the difficulty parents, teachers and the children face.
Their stories just touch your heart and I wanted to support them
anyway I can." He encourages everyone to take time this year
to volunteer and give to those less fortunate. You will be
truly amazed at what a difference helping others will make in your
life, stated Tom.
