Auto Cancels Merit Raise, Leaves Positions Unfilled, According to
PPG Industries' auto glass and services unit has cancelled its
previously planned May 1 merit raise and has decided not to fill
various open positions at the company, according to a memo issued
by its president and chief executive officer, Frank Archinaco, on
These actions are cost reduction strategies to offet the effects
of the current "overall very weak economy," along with
"severe inflationary pressures in natural gas, vinyl and freight,"
according to the memo.
With regard to the specific actions to be taken, Archinaco writes,
"These are difficult decisions because they impact each of
you, who I know are dedicated to making this a better business."
The memo is addressed to all automotive glass and services employees.
Officials at PPG were unavailable for comment at press time.
