Windshield Repair Company Owner Finds Silver Lining in Down Economy

Many might tend to focus on the negative in a recession like this one, but not Dave Casey, owner of SuperGlass Windshield Repair in Orlando, Fla. Casey notes that the company jumped in its rankings on the Franchise 500® list for the year, and points out this might just be a benefit of layoffs in other industry sectors.

“As a company, other people’s misfortunes are becoming our fortune,” he says. “Some of those [who’ve been laid off] from other fields are bringing a lot of sharp talent to this business … I’m seeing a lot of quality personnel being infused into the windshield repair business.”

He adds, “A lot of companies have moved backwards this year, and we’ve had some decent growth and remain stable.”

SuperGlass moved up the 2009 Franchise 500® list to No. 289—up ten spots from the previous year’s rankings. SuperGlass also was recognized on the low-cost franchise list with a rank of No. 62, and top home-based franchises, with a rank of No. 80. The list was published last January in Entrepreneur magazine, and the 2010 rankings are expected soon.
