Webasto Group Takes Over Karmann's Convertible
Roof Business in North America
August 6, 2010
The Webasto Group, an international automotive supplier of roof
and heating systems, has reached an agreement with the liquidator
of Wilhelm Karmann GmbH i.I., Ottmar Hermann, on a takeover of Karmann's
convertible roof business in the United States and Mexico. The terms
of the agreement, signed August 4, were not disclosed.
The two companies in the Webasto Group, Webasto-Edscha Cabrio USA
and Webasto-Edscha Cabrio México, have taken over the U.S.
business of Karmann and the manufacturing plant of Karmann Ghia
de México, respectively. The North American Karmann facilities
employ a total of about 150.
"This acquisition has helped us consolidate our position as
the market leader for convertible roof systems," say Franz-Josef
Kortüm, chairman of the management board at Webasto AG. "It
has brought us an important step closer to our goal of becoming
the best convertible roof supplier in the world. We now have a customer-oriented
representation on all of the world's convertible roof markets and
can offer our high competence wherever our customers ask for this."
"I am delighted that we have found a solution following the
very constructive negotiations for both of the companies in North
America and Mexico in the course of a transferred reorganization,"
adds liquidator Ottmar Hermann.
The convertible roof business in the United States and the manufacturing
plant in Mexico will be integrated in the existing convertible roof
business of the Webasto Group. This was realigned last year under
the name Webasto-Edscha Cabrio following the takeover of Edscha's
convertible roof business, according to a statement from the company.
