Ray Asbery, CEO of Equalizer, Passes Away Unexpectedly
September 28, 2011
pioneer, legend and entrepreneur Ray Asbery, CEO of Equalizer
in Round Rock, Texas, passed away unexpectedly yesterday at his
home. He had had back surgery 7 weeks ago,
and was undergoing a difficult recovery.
Asbery worked for Globe Glass as an installer for a number of years, and left and went on to invent a number of innovative auto glass tools that changed the industry. He founded and grew Equalizer to become a worldwide auto glass tools and supply company. Asbery held more than 20 patents in 15 different countries.
He is survived by his wife Clare, and two children, Eric, president of Equalizer, and Wendy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Humane Society and to Smile Train.
"Ray loved the industry," says Gilbert Gutierrez, vice president of sales at Equalizer. "He was a big part of it and he loved it. Smile Train has lost a big supporter in him."
"He was truly a person who changed the industry in lots of ways," said Deb Levy, publisher of AGRR magazine. "He was someone who worked hard to bring the industry together."
AGRR has set up a tribute page on its forum for readers who wish to leave their remembrances of Ray Asbery and will provide more details as they become available.
