Auto Glass Technician Olympics Has First Female Contestant
Registered
Mary Morissette has officially become the first woman registered to compete
in the Auto Glass Technician Olympics.
The company safety and technical trainer and store manager of Champion
Glass in Sanford, Maine, Morissette has been in the auto glass industry
for 20 years, starting with office work while she was still in high school.
Earlier this year, AGRR columnist Dale Malcom profiled Morissette in his
column, Trainer's Corner. Malcom was one of the first to work with her
in the auto glass industry and wrote of her early days in the industry,
when she "naturally took to auto glass work," also learning
about residential glass replacement, commercial glazing and "[becoming]
one of the lead glaziers servicing the trolley account
"
Morissette is no stranger to being "the first" in the industry;
in 1992 she was the first woman to become an NGA certified senior auto
glass technician.
Currently, there are more than 15 competitors registered to participate
in the AGTO. With limited spaces, those interested in competing are encouraged
to register early for the event.
The Auto Glass Technician Olympics will be held November 1-3 in conjunction
with the Auto Glass Expo @ NACE show at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center
in Las Vegas.
