GTS Helped Customers Continue Business after Hurricanes
In the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, many glass shops across the
Gulf Coast were struggling to return to normal life, both on the business and
personal front. GTS Services, a technology unit of PPG Industries, reports that
for at least one of its customers, the use of GlasPacLX online helped mitigate
the damaging affects of Hurricane Katrina on its auto glass business.
In a press release issued today, GTS Services explained the story behind Lloyd's
Glass, a New Orleans-based operation that made the shift from business software
installed on the hard drives of every shop computer to internet-based technology
access via GTS' GlasPacLX online program. When Hurricane Katrina made landfall
in New Orleans, devastating the city, Lloyd's Glass was able to return as a functioning
business within a short period of time and the company was able to move its base
of operations to Orlando, Fla., without disrupting business.
"When Katrina hit, we were able to get back up and running in just a few
days. Dislocated employees could access information and work from any Internet
connection," said Tee Cambre, owner of Lloyd's Glass.
