Following several months of a pilot program, National Windscreens has launched a United Kingdom-based calibration service for windshield-mounted cameras, which are an integral part of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
As automakers and technology companies move full steam ahead to produce fully autonomous vehicles in the near future, a big question is whether or not consumers are ready for self-driving vehicles? “All cars now are going to have these Advanced Driver Assistance Systems [ADAS] and if you don’t get the calibration right, it has pretty serious consequences and so we are obviously speaking to insurance companies around the world. We are now equipped worldwide to be able to deliver ADAS calibration,” said Gary Lubner, CEO of Belron during an investor day conference for D’Ieteren held last week in London. United Kingdom-based Autoglass® has launched a solution to replace and recalibrate windshields equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The program is in the piloting process and will be soon rolled-out throughout the country.
A number of ANSI committee meetings will be held just prior to Auto Glass Week™ 2015 on September 28 to 29, 2015. One of these meetings will address the development of a new American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard that relates to the identification in quality differences of windshields.
Through its acquisition of AA AutoWindshields, United Kingdom-based Auto Windscreens will grow by an estimated 40 percent, increasing its market share to 20 percent, says Chris Thornton, managing director of the company. What makes this deal unique is that the AGRR market in the U.K. has been “depressed” for several years, he adds.
