Appreciation

“Last Friday I drove to East Texas to attend a memorial service for a franchisee’s mother. The franchisee and his sister delivered moving tributes to their mother, Nancy. Their parents adopted them when they were days old – a couple of years apart. Their parents were married 59 years. Their father was also in attendance.” -Mark Liston

Mark Cuban Style

“Mary Kay and I went to a Cancer Society fundraiser last year and were the highest bidder for a “sports package” – which included 4 tickets for a Dallas Mavs game, four tickets to a Texas Rangers game and four tickets for a baseball game at any other stadium who serves Coca-Cola, the sponsor.” – Mark Liston,

The Benefits of Change

“Why do people often fight change? Is it because change is uncomfortable? Is it because people are convinced their way is better, despite all of the evidence to the contrary? I think it is a little of both. I have personally witnessed heated discussions that rarely change minds or beliefs.” -Bob Beranek

Preparation

“Last week I had cataract surgery on my left eye. In two weeks I’ll have the right eye done. A few months ago I noticed that driving at night was getting tougher. It looked like there was a flashlight shining directly into my eyes when headlights were coming at me. The optometrist in Waco recommended me to a surgeon in Austin – a mere 100 miles away.” -Mark Liston

Building a Foundation

“The Dwyer Group is building a new three-story building at our Waco campus for a training facility and offices. This past week I had a chance to watch the construction of the building. The construction crew has been working at the site for the past month getting the foundation ready.
This led me to think about what is necessary to build a three-story building, a skyscraper or even a very successful business. All of them need a strong foundation,” -Mark Liston

Mechanical Bonding Part Two

“I have recently heard of a problem in adhering urethane to an internally applied frit. What we mean by an internally applied frit is one that is applied on surface 2 or 3 instead of surface 4 where it is usually applied. The frit is the paint band around the perimeter of the glass and acts as an aesthetically pleasing finishing application, but also acts as a protective coating for urethane’s biggest enemy, ultraviolet light,” -Bob Beranek
