Due to high industry demand, Mitchell International is now publishing a National Auto Glass Specifications (NAGS) book that covers model years 2000 to 2010, according to the company.
Looking back, it appeared as though a seismic shift rippled through the industry ten years ago. National Auto Glass Specifications (NAGS, which is a part of Mitchell International) announced a rebalancing of its benchmark pricing that took effect February 2005. PPG Auto Glass (now owned by Pittsburgh Glass Works), Pilkington (now a part of Nippon Sheet Glass), Mygrant Glass, Kryger Glass, Saf-ti Auto Glass Distributors and many other distributors responded to the pending changes with a resounding no: “We will not change our pricing.” Insurance companies, on the other hand, were another story.
“[W]ith all of these sensors in vehicles these days and a vehicle’s ever-increasing ability to communicate with external parties, how would a future look where the car made the claim?” asks Sean Carey, president of SCG Management Consultants in Mitchell International’s fourth quarter Industry Trends Report.
Mitchell International, which owns National Auto Glass Specifications (NAGS), announced that global investment firm KKR has purchased Mitchell. “This will not have any impact to NAGS or the management team at Mitchell,” says Bud Oliver, director of product operations at Mitchell.
