Appellate Court: Yelp’s “Manipulation of User Reviews Not Harmful” to Small Businesses

Several small business owners, including an auto repair shop, filed a lawsuit against Yelp claiming the company “extorted or attempted to extort advertising payments from them by manipulating user reviews and penning negative reviews of their businesses in violation of California state law.” After the lower court dismissed the complaint, the business owners appealed the decision to the Ninth Circuit Court. The appellate panel of judges agreed with the lower court’s decision. Three automotive glass company owners, meanwhile, disagree with the court’s decision. Continue reading

U.S. Department of Transportation One Step Closer to Requiring V2V Communication

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has taken a big step toward requiring future vehicles to talk to each other to prevent possible collisions. NHTSA has released an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and a Supporting Research Report on Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Communications Technology and expects to deliver notice of proposed rulemaking by 2016. “This could make it a little more interesting to install glass,” says Sam Shipley, owner of Maryland Auto Glass.
